National Environments

National Policies

There are few countries that have specific local (sub-national) economic development legislation within one law. Most countries do have various enabling powers in multiple pieces of legislation, for example Local Government Legislation, Trade and Industry Legislation, Rural, Urban or Regional Development legislation, Environment powers and so on. In this section we will gather examples of national policies, enabling powers and legilsative frameworks.

Regional Strategies

Local Economic Development strategies can be carried out on many spatial scales, at neighbourhood or ward levels, market town, city/region and regional strategies. This section will share resources on regional economic strategies, and related regional spatial and territorial development strategies.

Sectoral Policies

Although LED strategies are focussed upon territory or space, sectoral policies from line ministries are crucially important as they direct significant state resources to local levels.
